Dinner with friends

Once a month we get together with some of our good friends. Jason is my husband's best friend. He has been for many years before he met me. Christina is his wife and has become my best friend. I look forward to our monthly get-togethers. We usually start with a girly movie for Christina and I while the guys play on the computers and then have a nice dinner together followed by a movie for all to enjoy. It is pure fun!
This time we let the kids pick out a movie for before dinner. Mia picked Spider Man 3. Dominic (Jason And Christina's almost 5 year old) was still napping. Once he was up Mia was gone playing and the movie played on, barely paid attention to. Christina and I were so immersed in conversation that we didn't really watch the movie. It was really good. We talked about things from our struggle with weight loss (view my weight loss blog for more on my struggle), our kids starting kinder-garden in the fall, her oldest starting high school and mine starting middle school, our husbands, our mothers and sisters and just life in general. We are both the oldest and have two younger sisters. Our mothers are similar and our sisters are similar. It is almost scary!
We had some great food for dinner. The men grilled these giant, bigger than the bun hamburgers and we cooked some fries and onion rings. It was delicious!! Their oldest and my oldest were both other places having sleep overs and so it was just the little ones. Dominic and Mia had their hot dogs and loved them. Dominic ate 2 but no fries and Mia had one and a bunch of fries. Zach had his carrots and Hawaiian delight baby food. From his "yummmms" I think he enjoyed his food just as much as we did ours.
After dinner we watched a new movie called Armoured and then Aliens vs. Predators. They were both great movies. The grown ups had cheesecake and the kids had yogurt for desert. Later the kids also decided to have some cheesecake.
I love hanging out with friends and just relaxing!! It is a blast and I look forward to next month when we will be celebrating Dominic's 5th birthday!!

Rain rain go away

I am looking forward to the warmer spring days. In Kansas City this year we have had a lot of snow and it seems as if every weekend has been cold, snowing, raining, or cloudy.
I can't wait for some sunshine. I can't wait to go outside and play with the kids every day.
I am hopeful that the weather forecasters are correct in their forecasts of upper 70s next week. What fun that will be!!

The airport fiasco

So, Sam was to return home from his dad's house in Colorado on Friday morning at 8:45am via airplane. He has flown many times and it is normally not a big deal.
I left the house at 7:50ish since the airport is a little bit away and it was Friday morning late rush hour. Luckily the traffic wasn't bad at all so I got there fairly quick. I pulled into the parking lot at 8:15. Awesome still plenty of time. Then I get a call from my ex, saying that his plane didn't take off until late because they were having radio trouble and there was bad weather in Denver so they had to de-ice the plane so it could take off safely. So I am like cool it shouldn't be too long.
So Zach and I go int he airport to wait, because I wasn't going to drive all the way home just to turn around and drive all the way back.
I get in and check the arrival board. So far they just have it at a 10 minute delay. I am thinking "yay that isn't too bad at all!"
Little did I know!!!
So about 30 minutes later I go check the board again and it says it isn't to arrive until 9:30!!! Wow. So I hunker down in a chair, feed Zach breakfast and then call my mom to let her know what is going on and kill some time on the phone.
After I get off the phone, I look down and it is barely 9 am!!! Then the boredom sets in. I start watching the people as they pass by.
There were several military personnel going all different directions. I thought about the great sacrifice they, and many people in the past have made for our country and was grateful.
I saw several college age students walking around returning from spring break destinations and thought of the fun they must have had.
The airport security lady came over and chit chatted a little while with Zach. HE smiles and then dozed to sleep. So I looked at my clock again - 9:14!!
Man this is taking forever. So after watching some more people, texting my sisters, talking to Anthony on the phone, and visiting with an airport employee I look down at my clock again- 9:25!!!
Now we are getting somewhere!! So I decide to go walk over to the gate he will come out of. A few other people waiting on passengers from the same flight started to straggle near also. One lady I saw walk past 3 times. I thought to myself I should have offered her a seat next to me, but she didn't seem like she wanted to chat.
So finally the plane pulls up to the gate at 9:37. I was so happy Sam was finally getting off the plane.
So, then it came time to get the luggage. We go to the luggage gate and wait and wait. The bags finally started to come up. We were at the wrong baggage area. Luckily the one we were supposed to be at was only 15 feet away. We step over and wait some more. Finally the bags come up. People step in and get their bags and head out. We are still waiting. The baggage lady says that was all the luggage on the plane. Well, Sam's wasn't there. In fact there were about 10 people who's bags weren't there.
We go into the baggage office and they tell us that it was a late check-in (meaning it was checked it after the 2 hour mark prior to flight) and it was probably on the next flight. In that case we were to come back and pick it up. If it wasn't on the next flight, they would deliver it to us when they found it.
At that point I was a little perturbed!! I was ok with waiting for the delay, but then the baggage. ARG. So they gave me a slip of paper and told me they would call.
I went about my business for they day. Ran my errands, played with the kids a little. Finally, while we were out running errands, the phone rings and they have the luggage. THANK GOD!! Almost all of Sam's clothes are in that bag. He would not have fun wearing the same 4-5 outfits over and over until they found the bag.
So Anthony and I drove back up to the airport with the kids after we were done with the errand and picked up the suitcase. Luckily that was a quick in and out thing. IT was 2:30 pm by that point. So something that was supposed to be done by 9:30 lasted all day!!! Wow!
So now comes the decision - do I continue to let Sam fly, risking this type of thing to happen again (and with the new fee of $25 per trip for being an unaccompanied minor) or do I drive and meet his dad half way in Hayes KS 6 times a year??

What a week

This past week has been a busy one.

Thursday night was Mia's school function they do once a month. This time was a play put on by some local college students. It was Charlotte's Web. Mia absolutely loved it.

Saturday my mom and I drove to and from Hayes, KS. That is about 4 1/2 hours each way. We were driving to meet my ex-husband so Sam could go visit him in Denver, CO for spring break. Zach came with. He did really good. He only fussed for about 30 minutes. It was really a good trip.
Mia stayed home with Daddy and they had a great bonding day. They went to the store and bought a steak. Then they came home and BBQ it. Mia loves daddy's steak. She had a fun day too.
Saturday evening we celebrated my soon to be brother-in-law's 35th bday. It was a blast. The kids ended up staying with Grandma Lidia. Mia had a sleep over, but we picked up Zach.

Sunday was a good relaxing day. We just sat around the house, did a little cleaning, and watched some tv. It was relaxing. Mia wanted to have another sleep over so I was ok with that.

Monday came and I called Mia yet again and she still wanted to sleep over. I told her one more night, but no more cause I miss her sooooo much. I can't wait for her to get home.

Today I got up, cleaned up the kitchen, paid the bills, did some laundry and cleaned Mia's room. It was a mess!!!! There was dishes, bags of food, crumbs, broken crayons, and toys everywhere!!! It took me an entire hour of cleaning to get it clean. I was dripping with sweat by the time I was done. I hope when she gets home today that she appreciates the hard work. We are definitely having a talk about how gross it was and how she needs to clean up after herself.
I hope for the rest of the day I can rest cause cleaning that room was a real chore!!

To schedule or not to schedule???

For the majority of my youngest son's life (now 6 months old), I have just done things as he wants them. I feed when he acts hungry, I let him sleep whenever he falls asleep and play whenever he wanted to play. That is great for him, but I can never get a schedule for myself. I can't get cleaning done, laundry is a disorganized thing, and I feel the house is in chaos. I know this is my fault for constantly holding Zach when he was so young. I have him trained to think that he needs me there but his side 100% of the time.
So, do I put him on a schedule? Feed him at certain times? put him to bed for nap at certain times? Will that help? There is only one way to find out and it is to do it. What if he hates it? What if I can't stick to it? What if it is a big disaster? What if it works?????

Zach's 6 month check up

Zach is 18 pounds 12 ounces and 27 1/2 inches long. He is a bog healthy boy. He got his shot and did well with it. He has had a little trouble in the past with swelling around the injection site. I am hopeful that it will not happen again.
